Remembrance Ceremony 2008

When you go home
Tell them of us, and say,
"For your tomorrow
We gave our today."

On Tuesday 11 November, the school held its annual Remembrance Ceremony, involving former pupils and pupils from the school of today.

The assembled guests were welcomed by James Thewliss on behalf of the school and John Baxter on behalf of the F.P. Association. The ceremony commenced with the hmyn "Eternal Father", accompanied by members of the school orchestra, and a prayer by Rev David Scott.

The wreath laying then took place. On behalf of Former Pupils, a wreath was laid by Bill Yeaman, and the same duty was performed on behalf of the school by school captains Aisha Schofield and Thomas Cartwright. A Lament was played by piper Kyle Howie throughout the Wreath Laying Ceremony. Mr Thewliss then read Binyon's tribute "For The Fallen".

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them

Two minutes silence was then observed and the Last Post played by bugler Dean Lynch. The ceremony ended with the hymn "Abide with me" and a Benediction by the Rev John Ferguson.
